Iraq, Libya, and the ‘humanitarian intervention’ misnomer

Humanitarian intervention is a hotly discussed practice in Western circles (epitomised by the Responsibility to Protect, or R2P) since the 1990s after numerous interventions (such as the Balkans) by Western armed forces. However, whilst there is extensive literature on ‘humanitarian’ intervention, it should not be disguised from its part in the practice of ‘liberal’ intervention.
