The leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are about to gather for the Alliance´s Chicago summit in few weeks’ time. Beyond the most heated issues on the summit´s program, such as the continuing Eurozone crisis, the last phase of the war in Afghanistan and the growing Iranian nuclear challenge, another expected outcome of the summit is the conclusion of NATO´s Deterrence and Defense Posture Review (DDPR) which aims to provide a road map addressing the key questions regarding the future role of nuclear weapons in NATO´s policy.

“Parliament is the house of all Afghans. If we can’t defend Parliament then we can’t defend anyone,” explains Mohammed Naeem Lalai Hamidzai. The Member of Parliament for Kandahar picked up a PK machine gun and took to the roof of the Afghan Parliament when it came under attack recently.

On March 5, NATO Emerging Security Challenges Division and the Public Diplomacy Division organized a seminar of senior officers on the future of the energy policy of the Alliance. NATO leaders are committed to finding practical solutions to better "cut fat" in the expenditures of the Alliance as a part of the project launched in Lisbon in 2010 by Secretary General Anders F. Rasmussen to reform NATO under the concept of Smart Defence.
